Writing test cases to verify Decision Model and Notation (DMN) models at design time is crucial for identifying potential issues in the modeling stage. You can build a test scenario for your DMN Model by adding input to a test and the expected output to an AssertTrue.
Create Test Cases
After modeling the logic rules with the DMN approach, click on the Add New Document to create test cases. Under the test case document type, click on the General Logic.

After you create a test case document, you should first specify the logic document for which you want to create test cases it.
Then from the toolbox, drag and drop a Test and add it under the section. Now, you can add your input to the test case.

Drag and drop an AssetTrue under your test case in the next step. You should add your output to the Expression, as shown in the image below.

After you provide sample input and output to the test case, you can run it and see the result.

If the Actual result is the same as the provided output, the test will pass. Otherwise, it fails and shows the red banner with the result on your model.

More details about how you can create different models of test cases are in this resource hub article.
Summary of creating test cases for a DMN model
Creating test cases for your DMN models at design time is helpful for detecting potential issues. By providing sample input and output for the model, you can efficiently create and run the test cases. By running the test cases, you can see whether your DMN model passes the tests or needs to be modified.
