⚠️ Rather than starting with #data and data catalog and metadata management, start with the decision model.
Data warehouse, data lake, master data, schema, reports, measures, ML models, data contracts, data quality metadata, data pipeline, governance metadata… the list goes on!
I get it. Data is important for many organizations, often for emotional rather than practical reasons. They're sold on the idea that “data is oil”. Sure, if you're big tech with billions in free cash flow. Even that's questionable.
🚩Starting with data is lazy, expensive, and risky.
🤔 Do you want data to make better business decisions? If so, you might be on the wrong path.
This may sound counterintuitive, but the facts show more data WILL NOT necessarily lead to better decisions. For instance, according to Forrester “between 60% and 73% of all data within an enterprise goes unused for analytics”.
