Do N🚫T underestimate the benefits of managing business rules.
💢Many professionals underrate the value of business rules. They think that someday #ai #ml #llms is going to replace the efforts and benefits of managing business rules. It is very easy to get caught up in technology hype and think that way.
Even if there will be an #ai someday that can execute all the business scenarios #agenticai, it still does not mean organizations' leaders should stop caring about managing business rules.
Why?
1️⃣Business rules are the core foundational knowledge of organizations. Organization should own them as single source of truth based on business rules. They need to become a guardrail to validate the outputs of any systems (yes, especially #LLms and any #ai #agenticai).
2️⃣#machinelearning #llms #ai are not a substitute for managing and executing business rules explicitly. Rules should NOT be embedded processes or codded inside any system, for that matter let alone any #ai agents. Because their life cycle is not aligned with the lifecycle of the products using them, they change more frequently than expected.
3️⃣Organization's knowledge should be captured, documented, and maintained so business operations run based on that knowledge. The knowledge should NOT be only in the heads of some individuals. This includes any human and digital individuals i.e. robots, #ai agents, #llms etc.
💣Business rules are to be managed across the core operations of the business. They are prescriptive, and operations need to know exactly how and under what circumstances any rules are activated. This is not possible with blackbox #ai particularly any #llms #machinelearning algorithms.
At the end of the day, business runs based on rules either internal corporate strategies and procedures, regulatory rules or policies. Human, #AI #agents MUST comply with them. There is no way around it.
