🛣️A decision model is a roadmap and blueprint of a business decision that depicts a holistic view of how a business decision is made. At its core, this blueprint is an executable artifact that uses multiple composite techniques to bring together smaller, more understandable, and self-sufficient decision units. It specifies how a decision is made using the relationship and dependencies between the decision units.

✨Once the model is defined, then each decision unit in the decision model can use different techniques and technologies such as business rules, AI/ML, data processing, workflow, algorithms, etc. As you noticed, the decision model essentially acts as the coordinator between multiple decision units, passes information in, sends the outcomes of one unit to another, and proceeds until the decision is made.

🚀What are the benefits of this approach using self-sufficient decision units to work together based on a blueprint of business decisions?
🔹Each individual unit is modular: testable, traceable, reusable, and composable
🔹Brings composability in the same decision-making scenario as well as future ones
🔹Provides a greater explainability and transparency on the decision model
🔹Enables the use of multiple decisioning techniques as part of the overall business decision
🔹Makes it clear and transparent how a business decision is made
🔹Enables specifying the KPIs and performance metrics of the units independently and in relation to each other
🔹Provides a clear guideline on what data, information, and systems are needed

Finally, the model is an executable artifact, so it can be deployed and operationalized into organizations' processes, systems, and within teams.

💣That's how decision automation should be done, not by jumping to #data, #code, #algorithm, #ml, #llms, or anything else for that matter! Modeling business decision is to frame a business decision holistically in a systematic manner.
