⛔ STOP confusing data and context with a decision model and calling it a “decision layer”!
The AI industry talks about a “decision layer” but still misunderstands what a decision is.
A real decision is a commitment to a course of action.
It must be expressed explicitly through a decision model using a common and understandable symbolic language.
A real decision includes these explicitly:
• intent,
• constraints,
• calculations,
• trade-offs,
• outcomes,
• and compliance and policies.
These must be understandable across all business and technical stakeholders.
Explicitly specified in a symbolic language for humans, AI, and systems.
Not hidden inside:
⭕ prompts,
⭕ traces,
⭕ embeddings,
⭕ workflows,
⭕ context,
⭕ or opaque model outputs.
Most AI platforms today manage data, context, and orchestration.
Not decisions.
Although they talk about the “decision layer” but it is all double down on data-driven view of the world at best.
