Cloning a project is a common requirement when modelling business decisions using Decision Model and Notation (DMN), especially when you need to replicate, collaborate, or migrate. FlexRule Designer allows you to clone projects from remote repositories directly into your local environment. This guide will walk you through the steps of cloning a DMN project.

Clone a Repository

On the home screen, click on Clone a Repository. This option is designed to help you to clone remote DMN projects seamlessly.

Provide Repository Information

You’ll be asked to fill in the following details:

  • Repository URL:
    The URL of the repository to clone
  • Branch Name (Optional):
    If you want to clone a specific branch (not the default, usually master or main), enter its name. Otherwise, leave this field empty.
  • Custom Folder (Optional):
    Choose a target folder for your project, or use the default location provided by FlexRule Designer.
  • Credentials:
    Username/Password or Private Access Token to clone private repositories

How to Retrieve the Repository URL

Let’s see how to get the repository URL. Here, we'll explain two example remote repositories(GitHub and Azure repo).

If you are using GitHub, go to your repository and click on Code to get the Repository URL.

Confirm and Clone

After entering the required information, click OK. FlexRule Designer will connect to the repository, clone the DMN project, and open it in your FlexRule Designer.
