Why does decision standardization matter❓

💥Imagine you are on a road where everyone is open to interpreting the traffic signs as they like. What can go wrong?

✨Standardization sets the framework, common language, and terminology. It is the core foundation of consistency, quality and efficiency.

At a very high level, there are several benefits to using standardization in business decisions:
🔹Consistency – Standardization ensures the decisions are consistent across systems, departments, and cross-organizations.
🔹Interoperability: With standardized notation, different tools and systems can communicate effectively, facilitating data exchange, collaboration, and integration at a more fundamental level than service calls.
🔹Compliance and Governance: In a regulated sector, laws and regulations need a standard language for implementation to ensure clarity and transparency by a common foundational language and notation.
🔹Efficiency: Communication is based on language (e.g. notation), and standardizing the notation and language brings significant efficiency to complex domains when different roles are involved.

💡Standardization may not feel as necessary for all industries, but for regulated industries such as #banking #financialservices #government #health #insurance is critical as they need to prove their implementation is correct. This is not possible without standardization of notation and language.

For example, imagine a global construction team where each group speaks a different language and uses different measurements—leading to confusion, delays, and costly rework. Now, if everyone used a common language and standards, materials fit, instructions are clear, and work will flow seamlessly.

💣Standardization requires compliant to standard body that is accepted as the authority. Otherwise, everyone becomes the reference point for the standard — that's the definition of chaos and confusion.

🚀Clarity, transparency, interoperability and efficiency are the power of a standard language in decision modeling and execution. Decision Model and Notation (DMN) as the common language between tech, business, and operations teams will eliminate misunderstandings, ensure consistency and improves clarity of intent, and accelerate projects, consequently, will save time and resources.
