1️⃣ Design
Look at a particular business operation, identify all the “business decisions” someone makes there, and capture them. Then, start decomposing them into smaller decision units. Determine their relationship with one another and depict their dependencies. Specify the metrics for the decision units. There! you have modeled the business decisions using a Decision Graph.
2️⃣ Automate
Pick the entire hierarchy of a business decision (its Decision Graph) from the Design stage with all its decision units. Determine the nature of the decision unit (i.e., probabilistic vs. deterministic). Based on their nature, choose the right techniques, #ai #ml #llms #rules #optimization #predictiveanalytics #algorithms #statistics, etc., to implement them. The Decision Graph now executes the smaller decision units based on their implementation. It collects results, rolls them up to the parent node, and finalizes the outcome.
3️⃣ Operationalize
At the high level, it has three steps:
– (a) deploy automated decisions to the organization,
– (b) orchestrate the systems, databases, and services around it,
– (c) collect the outcomes and integrate them back into processes, systems, and day-to-day operations.
At this stage, you are going to use many techniques and tools such as Impact Analysis and Adaptive Control (Champion Challenger, A/B tests, weighted execution and distribution, etc.)
4️⃣ Monitor
When the results of decision executions are integrated back into the processes and systems, you will keep an eye on the metrics of those individual decision units collected as part of the execution and their correlation to the KPI of the particular business operation. Those metrics collectively influence KPI whether or not the automated decision improves the operation. The metrics indicate where to start adjusting, improving, and repeating based on feedback.
