🛑Organization leaders should STOP treating Data and Analytics (D&A) as a technology function.

🚩Hence D&A strategy is mostly around self-service analytics, augmented analytics, analytics and business intelligence (ABI) platforms, data warehouse, and data literacy, so the leaders of the #DataAndAnalytics have no tools in hand to elevate the conversation to the business level.

🤐Gartner predicted “by 2026, 75% of CDAOs who fail to make organization-wide influence and measurable impact their top priority will be assimilated into technology functions”.

🤔So what is the solution, and how can data and analytics (D&A) leaders elevate the conversation? With using the “Decision-Centric Approach”.
Rather than hoping the data strategy and technology enable organizations to make better decisions, i.e., focusing on Data-Driven Decisions, they should think and talk about business operations and the business decisions influencing those operations.

Let me explain it in principle here:
1️⃣ Peek a business operation (function, group, team, value chain…)
2️⃣ Understand and identify what “business decisions” they make that influence the operation
3️⃣ Frame the business decision, meaning decompose it into smaller, easier-to-understand decision units (e.g. other smaller business decisions)
4️⃣ Establish the dependencies between those decision units
5️⃣ Identify and determine the Metrics and KPI for each of the business decisions (e.g. decision units)
6️⃣ Identify the data requirements for each of those decision units

⛳Now you can have the business level conversation about what “business decisions” in organizations are made and executed that influence the operation of business. What are the impacts of improving them? Why they should be improved? What data and information do they need? This is in contrast to the Decision-Centric Data. #decisioncentric
