⚡In #insurance, the providers deal with 5💥times more noise than expected.
🤔What is noise? “A variability that should not exist. When people make a judgment that should be identical because they are about the same subject”, said Daniel Kahneman. Judgment is defined by the possibility of reasonable disagreement but not 5x more than what executives expect in #insurance.
🫵The challenge with noise is the difficulty of pointing it out. There is no right or wrong answer; by its definition, it is the variability of the results.
🚩What is the problem with noise? There is a high financial cost, bad reputation, and customer dissatisfaction associated with neglecting to rectify the noise in #underwriting and #claims for #insurance.
🔦Why is that the case? If you look at #underwriters on average, they price correctly, but sometimes they price way too low, and sometimes they price way too high. When it is way too low, the company will lose money by paying in claims, and when it is too high, the company will lose business to competitors.
So, as you see in this example, both mistakes are costly. Noise is NOT an average of zero and WILL NOT sort out!
The solution? Using the decision-centric approach to automate #underwiring #pricing #discount #claims in #insurance. Using #DecisionIntelligence, insurers can:
🔹Model a holistic view of the decisions that cases deal with
🔹The holistic view includes multiple combined technologies such as #businessrules and #machinelearning
🔹The decision model that utilizes the composite techniques will drive business processes, or they can be embedded into long-running decisions.
✨The benefits? The decision models that use composite and combined techniques in #pricing #underwriting #discount #claims drive the decision-making and WILL reduce the noise. Additionally, #complience and #audit are easier with explainable composite decision models.
💣I believe machines powered by the decision-centric approach #decisionintelligence are better able to make certain kinds of judgments than humans. I would expect them to be superior in many cases in decision-making as they don't suffer from noise, so they make Quick, Accurate, Consistent, and Transparent business decisions (Quick ACT™).
